History

Founded in 1992 by Andrea L. Anaya as provider of quality medical transcription training, Career Step, LLC, is based in Provo, Utah, and is registered as an educational institution in the State of Utah under the Utah Postsecondary Proprietary School Act (Title 13, Chapter 34, Utah Code). In response to industry demand, Career Step developed a medical coding & billing program based on the same proven success principles as the medical transcription training program: teach the skills and provide the practicum necessary for students to obtain successful employment on graduation.

Since its founding, Career Step has provided distance education services to tens of thousands of students from all 50 states. In June 1999, Career Step made its training programs available to students through an online platform that incorporates the latest distance education programming techniques, technology, and instructional design methodologies.

Career Step has partnered with private and public institutions to help meet the needs of the growing healthcare industry. These initiatives include:

• Partnering with dozens of prominent, nationally accredited community colleges to offer Career Step's programs to their students under an exclusive licensing agreement.
• Partnering with medical service providers to develop online skills assessment testing, which has become the most widely used recruiting tool in the industry.
• Continued, active partnerships with medical coding & billing and medical transcription employers to assure curriculum, products and services meet the needs of employers.
• Direct enrollment for Canadians through CanScribe — meeting the specific needs of Canadian students and employers.
