“Career Step has been training quality medical transcriptionists for over 17 years, and we have developed this new course to support the professional development of medical transcriptionists even after they have entered the workplace,” said Michael Wilstead, Career Step’s CEO. “The new RMT Prep course will help those transcriptionists who have limited acute care experience demonstrate to employers that they have the professional knowledge and industry commitment required of excellent transcriptionists.”

The new Career Step RMT Prep course teaches students test-taking strategies specific to the RMT exam and reviews the materials students will need to know to excel on the exam, including medical terminology, principles of healthcare documentation, and body systems. Upon completion of the course, students will have the opportunity to gauge their readiness for the RMT exam by taking a practice test.

The Registered Medical Transcriptionist exam is offered by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) and was developed to assure employers and consumers that successful candidates are qualified to practice medical transcription.

AHDI offers two credentials, the RMT credential and the Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) credential; the RMT credential is designed for those medical transcriptionists who do not have the two years of acute care experience that AHDI recommends for those who take the CMT credentialing exam.
