Should You Join A Professional Organization? If so, which one? - Part 7
IVAA – International Virtual Assistants Association
The International Virtual Assistants Association (IVAA) was founded in 1995 in the founder’s home office. It was turned over to its members and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1999. It now has more than 600 members in 16 countries. They are a non—profit organization dedicated to the professional education and development of virtual assistants and educating the public on their role and function.
One of my favorite things about the IVAA is their Code of Ethics. They require that all members agree to abide by their strict code of ethics. This helps in the virtual assistant industry, as you often never meet your clients face-to-face, but they can trust that you will be ethical, honest, and diligent in your dealings with them.
Their member benefits are extensive if you are looking to start your own virtual assistant business from home. There are live and online annual conferences, educational activities, vendor products and services discounts, weekly online chats, connections with other VA’s in your area, discounts on their certification exams, an expert of the month program, industry specific chats, a public directory listing, mentoring, website hosting, volunteer opportunities and more. They also have a Request For Proposal (RFP) System that allows members to bid on projects that have been submitted by clients looking for a VA. This will help you to find new clients and build your business.
The IVAA offers three levels of membership, each offering different benefits. The student membership is a six-month membership for $37. If you aren’t sure you want to become a full member right off the bat, you can join using their Trial membership which is $44 for a three-month trial. Their regular membership includes all of the benefits offered and is $137 a year.
The IVAA has created a great video to provide more information about IVAA and the benefits of membership:
