You’ve taken a big step toward a brighter future by starting the Career Step Medical Administrative Assistant Program. As you study and learn the material, you will become more prepared to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam and start you career as a medical administrative assistant.
With the increasing demand for medical administrative assistants (employment in the field is expected to increase by 27% by 2018*), you have the choice to work in many different settings. Right now, you may be planning on working at your general practice or the reception desk in a hospital once you graduate—but these aren’t your only options! You could work as a medical administrative assistant in an occupational health clinic, plastic surgery office, chiropractor office, or even an optometrist office. You have a very wide variety of jobs and opportunities to choose from.
Another thing to remember is that a successful job search starts now! Start looking for that career today—don’t wait until you have graduated from the program. Take a look at some employment sites and start researching the different specialties now. The more you know about the industry and what is available to you, the better off you’ll be as you begin looking for a job in earnest after graduation.
