Watch it Here: IOD Coder Development Program Informational Webinar

Coding and BillingCareer StepCareer AdviceNo Comments

There was so much interest in the IOD Coder Development Program informational webinar yesterday that we exceeded GoToWebinar’s attendee limit! We apologize for the inconvenience this caused and are looking for ways to avoid this problem in the future.

In the meantime, please visit to watch the webinar and learn more about IOD’s Coder Development Program and the opportunities they offer to train for their remote inpatient positions.

To apply for the upcoming hiring period, you must have attended the live webinar or watched the archived version through the link above by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time January 22, 2015. Those who have done so will be forwarded the application instructions on January 23. IOD requires interested parties to have watched the webinar because they feel strongly that candidates must understand the construct of the program before applying.

You can see a pdf version of the webinar here. This is provided only for your reference; please note that you must watch the webinar through the link above by January 22 if you wish to receive the application instructions.

If you have any questions about Career Step’s partnership with IOD and the opportunities available to those who graduate from our career training school, please email us at

  2. Career Step January 21, 2015

    Hi DeTrese,

We will be emailing all webinar attendees instructions on applying with IOD on Friday, Jan. 23. Be sure to check your inbox at that point.

    Best wishes!

  3. Megan Nartowicz January 21, 2015

I received the email with the link from yesturdays webinar. It was full yesturday so I couldn’t watch it. But I am having trouble getting the link to work. Is there something I can do to fix the problem? I’ve tried on two different computers and on my iphone and it just won’t work.

  4. Gloria Williams January 21, 2015

The behavioral assessment that is due on January 30th is that going to be available every time a class is available or is that for any class this year, say after summer?

  5. shawnee January 21, 2015

I was not able to attend the webinar yesterday, how can I receive instructions on applying ? Thank you!!

  6. Career Step January 21, 2015

    Hi Megan,

I’m not sure why you’re having issues with it. Both the link in the email and the one in the blog post above are working on our end of things. Once you click on it, you should be prompted to enter your name and email and it should then give you a link to watch the webinar. Click the button to View the Recording and it should pop upon a prompt box that asks you what program you’d like to use to open it. My computer just auto-selected Windows Media Player and it worked fine. You may also consider trying different internet browsers on your computer. If you’re still having issues, you can contact our Technical Support team at 1-888-657-5761.

    Hope that helps!

  7. Career Step January 21, 2015

    Hi Gloria,

Yes, the behavioral assessment will be available every time IOD re-opens their hiring. If you’re not planning to work until the fall, you do not need to worry about completing it by the Jan. 30 deadline.

    Best wishes!

  8. Career Step January 21, 2015

    Hi Shawnee,

You only need to watch the archived version of the webinar through the link provided above. Once you’ve registered to watch the recording, your name will be added to the list of individuals who will receive application instructions on Friday, Jan. 23.

    Best wishes!

  9. Megan Nartowicz January 21, 2015

I get to where it brings up the windows media player but then it won’t play. I have registered a good number of times hoping each time it would work. Will it show up on your end that i have registered to watch it so I will get the application instructions? If so, can I look at the pdf file so that way I will know more about the company?

  10. Career Step January 21, 2015

    Hi Megan,

Hmm… have you tried clicking the link below the View the Recording button that says PC users may need to download the GoToWebinar software? Maybe that would help?

And yes, since you’ve registered multiple times, your name should be on the list of those who receive the application instructions. Either way, I’ve made a note of your email address and asked our email manager to make sure your name is on the list.

Fingers crossed that you can get it to work!

  11. Tessa Dalton January 21, 2015

I am interested in the IOD program but I am not done with this program. Do I still take the assessment on the 23rd? I dont want to pass this up but I dont think that I will be done with Career Step before their March start date. What do I need to do?

  12. Career Step January 21, 2015

    Hi Tessa,

The wisest course of action may be to apply now and later. Applying now can’t hurt and then when the application period opens again later you can also apply then. Right now they’re filling their March positions, but if they have more candidates they may ask them to sign on for later training dates.

Hope that helps and best of luck!

  13. Jodie Potts January 21, 2015

I’m having the same trouble as Megan, it doesn’t matter what I do I can’t see the video but I am very interested in the job.

  14. Jackie H January 21, 2015

Hello, I did see the webinar and would like to know if I should sign up on the 23rd even though I know I won’t be ready until the May or July training?

  15. Tammy Lockhart January 21, 2015

i have my CPC but am seeking a remote coding position. My experience is primary care, which is difficult to find in remote coding. Would this program help me in my goal?

  16. Andrea Waters - Rutkowski January 21, 2015

Same comment, unable to get any program to fully play the webinar. Good to know everybody will be receiving emails with all of the pertinent information. Will all the paperwork and a synopsis be included?

  17. Patricia Womack January 22, 2015

I am having problem opening the pdf version of the webinar.

  18. Career Step January 22, 2015

    Let’s get everyone’s questions answered…

Jodie and Andrea—We’re sorry to hear you’re having trouble viewing the webinar as well! We’ve added your email address to the list of those we will double check to ensure they’re included on Friday’s email list.

Jackie—We recommend the same strategy we offered Tessa above. The wisest course of action may be to apply now and later. Applying now can’t hurt and then when the application period opens again later you can also apply then. Right now they’re filling their March positions, but if they have more candidates they may ask them to sign on for later training dates.

Tammy—Definitely! Be sure to watch the webinar by 11:59pm tonight so you’ll receive further application instructions tomorrow.

Andrea—The email will include greater description of the position and application process as well as information on where to apply and who to contact with questions throughout the process.

Patricia—We’re sorry to hear you’re having trouble accessing the pdf. If you have a pdf reader installed on your computer, you should be able to see it at

    Best wishes to all!

  19. Career Step January 22, 2015

UPDATE: For those of you who asked whether you should be applying even though you haven’t finished the Career Step program yet (Tessa and Jackie)...

We just heard from IOD this morning that they will be requiring all applicants to have FINISHED their Career Step training. They’ve asked that if you have not yet graduated that you hold off on applying until future application periods.

We’re sorry for the confusion on this. This process is all new to us too, so we’re trying to pass on information as soon as we have it!

  20. Baishali January 22, 2015

Thank you Scot and Career Step for the webinar. I am interested in the trainee program and will be waiting to get the behavioral assessment on the 23rd and then proceed further.

  21. Heather Skrabak-Conwell January 22, 2015

How do I apply to IOD? I finished my billing/coding in November of 2013.

    Thank You

  22. Lisa Fran January 23, 2015

I was able to read the pdf and watch most of the webinar last night but to do so had to register many, many times as it kept looking up then going down. Will you be going by the registered email to send the information? Not sure why I had do much trouble tried it on three different devices. Am very interested! Thank you

  23. Career Step January 23, 2015

    Hi Heather,

If you watched the webinar before midnight on Jan 22, then you will receive an email with instructions on applying on Friday, Jan 23. If you missed the cutoff, IOD will be doing another round of hiring leading up to a May program start date (right now they’re hiring for March).

    Best wishes!

  24. Career Step January 23, 2015

    Hi Lisa,

Yes, we will be using the email that you used to register for the webinar. You will receive application instructions today.

    Best of luck!

  25. Becky Stahl January 23, 2015

I haven’t received an email with instructions yet. I did watch the webinar. Am I jumping the gun,or did I miss it?

  26. Kristina Andrews January 25, 2015

I am interested in the IOD CDP training program.  I just received the information for your program Saturday January 24th and I watched the webinar January 25th.  I missed the deadline for watching the webinar and submitting the application instructions for creating my profile and taking the behavioral assessment.  I wanted to know when could I be eligible for the next available classes.  I graduated from Allied Health Institute for Coding Specialist in 2012 and I have my CCS, but I have not been able to find a job due to lack of experience.  I look forward to hearing from you.

  27. Career Step January 26, 2015

    Hi Becky,

Likely you commented before we sent the instructions out. You should definitely have received them by now.

    Best wishes!

  28. Career Step January 26, 2015

    Hi Kristina,

IOD is hiring in waves. Right now they’re preparing for their March training, and the next session will be in May. We’ll provide information on applying for those positions as we get closer, likely toward the end of March.

    Best wishes!

  29. Lindsay Stewart January 28, 2015

I watched the live IOD webinar last week, but have yet to receive any application instructions.  Is it still possible to get this information?

  30. Career Step January 29, 2015

    Hi Lindsay,

We mailed the instructions out last Friday. Perhaps they got caught in your Spam folder? If you can’t find them, send a quick email to our Graduate Advisors at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and they can send them to you.

    Best wishes!

  31. Melinda Mattern January 30, 2015

I was excited to attend the IOD webinar.  I have not yet graduated from Career Step but am now even more inspired to complete my education!  Thanks for this opportunity!

  32. Carol Reisz February 20, 2015

I am interested in the IOD opportunity.  I have not yet completed the course, as I understand that is one of the requirements for applying.  But, can I watch the presentation now and apply for a position in future hirings?

  33. Career Step February 23, 2015

    Hi Carol,

Yes, you’re more than welcome to watch the webinar. We will also be posting additional information as we approach future hiring periods.

    Best wishes!

  34. Stephanie McGinnis March 31, 2015

Just wondering if there is any updated information on when the next IOD hiring period will be?

  35. Career Step April 01, 2015

    Hi Stephanie,

IOD was so overwhelmed by the response and interest of our graduates on the last go-round that they’re playing things a little closer to the vest this time around. However, if you send an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), our Graduate Advisors can send you their hiring details. =)

    Best wishes!

  36. DeAnna April 10, 2015

After doing a google search on “job competency assessment (SHL)” I am very concerned. What I am seeing goes well beyond common every day skill sets, especially testing in math skills. Could you explain more about the skill requirements one will need in order to pass this assessment test?

IOD will use a combination of various candidate attributes to help
us identify the members of the next CDP group:
    -Credentialed vs. non-credentialed
    -HIM-related experience
    -Matriculation/enrollment in a coding program
-Recommendation from a coding program facilitator
-Performance on a basic coding assessment
-Performance on a job competency assessment (SHL)
-Performance in a short phone interview

  37. amy.kendall April 15, 2015

    Hi DeAnna,

We apologize for the delay in getting back to you—we were trying to get more information for you from IOD.

Unfortunately, we have not received any additional details. However, our graduates have done well on IOD’s assessment testing so your Career Step education would likely prepare you very well for the process.

Best wishes, and if we receive more details we will post them.
