In-demand career in an ever-growing industry
There’s a great need for well-trained medical coders nationwide—in fact, there are estimated to be 30% more positions than professionals, and that number is expected to increase to more than 50% by the end of the year!

With the planned implementation of ICD-10 in October 2015, the rapid growth of the healthcare industry, a high number of retiring medical coding professionals, and the growth of new technologies, there is an ever-increasing need for skilled medical coders and billers. In fact, research conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects a 22% increase in health record and information technician employment opportunities from 2012 to 2022—compare that to an 11% growth for all other occupations. Now that’s great odds for a great job!

Opportunities for independent, flexible lifestyle
With the huge demand for medical coders, it is creating additional opportunities to choose your working lifestyle! In addition to traditional 9-5 on-site positions, there are also opportunities within medical coding and billing to work part-time or at home, with scheduled or flexible hours.

Traditionally, this extra working flexibility has been reserved for medical coders with several years of experience, but with the demand in the industry for well-trained professionals even new graduates can find work-at-home positions! Cost-effective, self-paced online training
One of the biggest perks of choosing a medical coding and billing career is the option of quality online education. These training programs are often very flexible, allowing you to complete a medical coding training program in as little as a few months or over the course of a year or two. Be sure to choose a reputable, industry-certified program in order to get the quality training you need to be successful.

For example, Career Step offers an affordable AHIMA-approved online training program in medical coding and billing that can be completed in as little as 4 months. Once you have completed the step-by-step medical coding course, you will have everything you need to become certified and start a successful career in this rewarding field.

Ready for an in-demand career that offers opportunities to fit your lifestyle? There are no down sides to medical billing and coding careers.
