Using Social Media for Referrals: LinkedIn
Are you on LinkedIn? If you’re not, you should be! If you’ve been a referrer for awhile, you’ve probably already told all of your friends and family about Career Step. LinkedIn is a great way to get more referrals by expanding your network.
If you’re new to LinkedIn (or even if you’re not!) go through your list of contacts and make sure you are connected to all of your friends, family, and business associates (both colleagues and business suppliers/partners.) The larger your network, the more likely someone you know will know someone who is looking to make a career change or go back to school.
You can also increase your circle of influence by joining LinkedIn groups. Look for groups that might have members who would be interested in changing careers or starting something new, like work-from-home groups. Also join or follow groups that are in the industries Career Step trains for such as medical transcription or coding and billing. Even though they are already trained in that profession, they might be interested in starting a new career—such as switching from medical transcription to coding and billing—or they may have friends or family who want to do what they do but don’t know where they can get training.
How to Get Referrals
The first (and easiest) thing to do is make sure you list your referral webpage address or personal website in your public profile. You want to make sure that anyone who sees your profile knows they can get more information about the training you received by going to that link.
The next thing to do is be active on LinkedIn. The more you post, comment, or like articles, the more your profile will surface on LinkedIn. One quick way to get your profile to be more visible is to become an industry “expert” by publishing articles about your job, working from home, online training, or whatever you feel comfortable writing about. These articles will also draw people in who are more likely to ask for more information about Career Step or fill out the form on your referral webpage. Are you not sure what to write or publish?
