Who’s Who Career Step Students: Retirees
In our Who’s Who of Career Step Students series, we’ve already explored several different types of Career Step audiences including high school seniors, new moms, military spouses, college students, career changers, and working moms. This month we’re focusing on retirees (or anyone who is on a fixed income) and the reasons why Career Step can make sense for them. And, as usual, we’re including some ideas on how you can share Career Step with friends and family who are at this stage of their life.
While we all dream of retiring early and living a life of leisure, the reality is that many of us we will still need to supplement our retirement income with some sort of employment. Career Step’s certificate courses are a great option for retirees because they are geared toward a specific career upon completion. This means our students can be trained and working in their field in just a few months. For those who are living off savings or a small monthly stipend, being able to get a job quickly can help them pay down debt or even avoid it altogether!
Ability to Train and Work from Home
With online training, Career Step students have the flexibility to learn at their own pace and in their own home. And many of the careers we train for, such as medical transcription and medical coding, also offer job opportunities to work at home. This is especially important for retirees who might prefer working from home vs commuting to work. And in the case of medical transcription, individuals have the added flexibility of choosing to work part-time or full-time depending on their needs.
How to Spread the Word
If you know someone who is retired, or who wants to retire but can’t afford it, let them know about the great opportunity they have to start a new career and supplement their income with career-focused training from Career Step. If you’re not a Career Step graduate or just feel uncomfortable sharing your own story, you can always share one of the many testimonials on our site. The Referral Resource Center also has several different fliers you can post on community bulletin boards.
