Who’s Who of Career Step Students: Military Spouses – Part 1

Military spouse
In order to help you increase your referrals, we started a new blog series last month highlighting the many different types of Career Step students. This month we’re focusing on military spouses, who make up a large portion of Career Step’s student body because our programs are perfect for their lifestyle. Why are our programs such a great fit? We thought you’d never ask!

Portability
As you can imagine, military families move around…A LOT! In fact military families relocate almost 3 times more often than civilian families—every 2 to 3 years on average. When you don’t know where you might be in 6 months, it can be hard to commit to a traditional brick and mortar school. With Career Step’s online training, it doesn’t matter if you move across town or across the country; you can take your training with you.

Flexibility
One thing that is constant with the military life is change. Being married to the military means you have to be prepared for the unexpected. With Career Step’s go-at-your-own pace training, you can work school around your life instead of trying to fit your life around school.

Affordability
Just like the rest of us, military spouses are concerned about making ends meet. Lucky for them, there are resources available to help them pay for school, the most popular being MyCAA. Military spouses who qualify for MyCAA funding can go back to school for FREE with Career Step. All of our courses are MyCAA approved, and our Academic Advisors can help military spouses apply for MyCAA funding. We also offer military tuition discounts for those who don’t qualify for MyCAA funding.

Job Opportunities
Because military spouses move so frequently, it is important for them to train for a career that has job opportunities nationwide or the option to work from home so they can just take their job with them. Luckily Career Step offers both! The demand for qualified healthcare professionals is on the rise with jobs available in almost any city in the US. And some jobs such as pharmacy technician are even available on military bases overseas! In addition, medical transcription and medical coding and billing careers both have work from home opportunities.

These are just some of the reasons why we think Career Step is the right choice for military spouses; do you know of more? We’d love to hear your thoughts in our comments section below!

Be sure to come back for part two of our Who’s Who series on military spouses where we give you some ideas on what you can do to increase your referrals within the military community.
