Deciding to Train as a Pharmacy Technician with Career Step
I decided to train for career as a pharmacy technician because I wanted to work in the healthcare field while I was studying to be an architect at the University of New Mexico. I searched for schools that offered a program I could finish quickly and that would prepare me to get a job fast—which is when I came across Career Step’s online program. As I researched more about Career Step, I felt this was the right school for me. Career Step stood out from other schools because they helped students gain experience, the program was self-paced, and they worked with students to find a job.
Benefits of My Career Step Education
I was taking my Career Step Pharmacy Technician course while I was also a freshman at the University of New Mexico, and Career Step was there for me every step of the way! I received frequent calls to make sure I was comfortable with the course, they followed-up to make sure I received all my books and supplies, and they checked with me often to see if I had any questions.
While I was studying with Career Step, I took advantage of the online chats with the pharmacy technician instructor—I had all of my questions answered and received help with my course. The chats also made me aware of the other students’ concerns and how to approach the situation if I were to encounter the same issue. These chats were a great resource, and I am so glad I took advantage of the opportunity to get my questions answered in a way that helped me learn more than I would have on my own.
I was busy studying and doing homework for both schools, and at times it was so insane I didn’t even have time to breathe! Even though it felt crazy, Career Step was amazing because I could fit the coursework into my schedule without rearranging my university classes. In the end, I was able to manage fairly well by being organized and prioritizing—I finished the semester and Career Step course with good scores and grades on both fronts.
My Highs and Lows
As a student there were ups and downs throughout the course. One thing I struggled with was memorizing the math associated with medications; it took a lot of time and patience on my part. However, I enjoyed filling prescriptions because I was able to get a feel for what it would be like working as a pharmacy technician. The course gives real situations and allows you to process them as if you were in a pharmacy.
Career Step also helped me get an externship for one month with Walgreens, and then I started to prepare for my National Certification Exam. Career Step helped me prepare for the exam by providing study materials, and I became nationally certified two weeks after graduation! My credentials played a big role in finding a job because it showed I had experience and knew the material.
I finished the program in 4 months, and I was employed about 2 months after I graduated. I couldn’t have done it without my Career Step education! They helped me to learn the material well, taught me what to expect in a pharmacy technician career, and gave me the opportunity to gain experience working in an actual pharmacy.
I would most definitely recommend Career Step to others who are looking for a great education and fast employment. Career Step offers great opportunities that can help one be successful in life!
