The CMT Exam Prep training program is divided into smaller modules, or course subjects, which each have individual units and exercises. Throughout the program there are elements of the AHDI Book of Style, labs/diagnoses, pathology, pharmacology, and both specialty and system-related exercises, practical portions, and tests. Program Orientation
This module provides an overview of the training components, instruction on how to navigate the program, and tips and resources for getting the most out of the CMT Prep training program.
Building Blocks of Medical Terminology
This module focuses on word building with word roots, prefixes, and suffixes, and learning the combination and plural forms of medical terminology. Students will also review meanings, spellings, and abbreviations.
English Language and Grammar
This module concentrates on tricky English language and grammar rules, and teaches students to identify and apply correct grammar, usage, and punctuation based on the conventions of the English language and the rules presented in the AHDI Book of Style, Third Edition.
Anatomy and Disease — Block 1
This module is the first of those on the various body systems and will cover the circulatory/cardiology, digestive, and endocrine systems. Students will study the symbiotic relationships these systems have with each other and other systems.
Anatomy and Disease — Block 2
This module examines the immune/lymphatic, integumentary, and muscular systems and further builds on the concepts of disease processes, pathophysiology, structure and function of systems, and medical terminology.
Anatomy and Disease — Block 3
This module, like the other anatomy and disease blocks, further builds on how systems function together and specifically explores the nervous/brain, reproductive, and respiratory systems.
Anatomy and Disease — Block 4
This final anatomy and disease module covers the sensory, skeletal, and urinary systems. Students will also study specialties, including podiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and chiropractic/pain management.
Medicolegal/Ancillary Information
This module reviews the principles of healthcare documentation, including regulatory requirements such as HIPAA and JC (formerly JCAHO), risk management issues, and the fundamentals associated with patient privacy and rights and the provisions of medical transcription in these areas.
CMT Practicum
This module is the practical portion of the program and consists of transcription, editing, and proofreading of a variety of medical reports and specialties.
Final Examination
This module houses the final examination, which is designed as a mock CMT exam.
