AHIMA National Convention 2013

The AHIMA national convention is being held this next week—October 26-30. Career Step’s medical coding and billing instructors will be attending the convention. We are really excited for the education sessions! These educational sessions cover a variety of topics, and it is exciting to attend these sessions to find out about changes to the medical coding industry. With less than a year until the implementation of ICD-10, there will be several educational sessions that talk about ICD-10. It will be interesting to hear about how different organizations are preparing for the transition to ICD-10.

This list gives you a good idea of just how many topics will be discussed. One of the ICD-10 sessions is titled “The Good, The Bad, and The Reality: 365 Days until ICD-10 Adoption.” This is one of the sessions that we’re most excited to attend! It will talk about the lessons learned related to ICD-10 implementation activities including payer collaboration, training, testing, clinical documentation, and revenue cycle system preparation. Another session that we are excited to attend is called “Transformation of HIM Workforce for New Roles and Elevated Positions.” This should be an exciting session to find out about the new job opportunities that are available to HIM professionals.

This is only a small sampling of the exciting topics that will be discussed at the AHIMA National Convention.
