Referrer Spotlight: Katherine Ashby

Katherine Ashby

After graduating from Brigham Young University, my first job was at Career Step. I started out at the front desk and ended up holding several different positions in nearly 3 years with them. While working as an Academic Advisor I helped prospective students in selecting careers based on their individual education and vocational objectives; I also encouraged them to become referrers and to share the love. I became passionate about the referral program and the opportunities it could provide not only to current students but to prospective students as well. Current students could make some extra money and prospective students could benefit from flexible online courses and successful careers. I had the first hand opportunity to see how the referral program blessed the lives of many students.

Last year my husband received a job offer in NY and we moved from the West to the East Coast. Having a young toddler and a baby on the way, we decided that I would be a stay-at-home mom and focus on the kids. Soon after deciding to stay at home I realized how much I missed working and being involved in something outside of the home. I also quickly realized that the cost of living in NY was way more than we expected. I recalled my Career Step years and decided to become a referrer myself. I personally know many of the instructors, academic advisors, and other employees at Career Step and I remember them with fondness. Being a Career Step graduate myself I thought that engaging in this work was a no brainer and would give me the opportunities to help others as well as provide for my family.

I started using Facebook to reach out to friends and family who might be interested. I also started commenting on blogs, forums, and articles searching for people who would be interested in taking an online course. I share my personal email and gladly answer prospective student’s questions when they reach out to me.

I loved working at Career Step, and now I love being a referrer for them!
