We really appreciate all of your referral efforts and support! With your help, we’ll be donating $5,500 to the National Military Family Association’s Operation Purple® program. Go team!
This is the second year that we’ve been able to donate to this great program with your help. In case you’re unfamiliar with Operation Purple® program, it’s a summer camp initiative run by the National Military Family Association. The goal is to help children who have, have had, or will have a parent absent on deployment. The camp program helps them deal with the stress and uncertainty by teaching them coping strategies, introducing them to others in similar situations, and give them a fun outlet.
Military children face stresses and pressures much higher than children in civilian families; in fact, the number of military children at high risk for anxiety is 2.5 times the national average and there has been an alarming rise in the number of children seeking mental health care. With Operation Purple®, the National Military Family Association strives to help children who are healthy stay that way and to strengthen those who are weakening under prolonged strain and anxiety.
In addition to special programs incorporating physical activity, animals, and the outdoors, children get to participate in activities such as:
- Exploring helicopters and Humvees
- Tasting MREs (meals-ready-to-eat)
- Speaking with service members recently returned from war
- Scavenger hunts with global positioning systems
- Playing hide-and-seek wearing night-vision goggles
Here are what a few campers had to say about their experiences:
“Camp is amazing! I am so glad I was given the opportunity to attend. Thank you so much!” – Emma
“Coming to camp gives you the opportunity to let loose and make new friends who may be in the same position as you. The camp is for everyone!” – Jordan
