Wednesday, April, 27, 2016, is Administrative Professionals Day. As an executive assistant, you may be called upon to do something for the other administrative assistants in your company, or your boss may ask for suggestions to help him/her properly acknowledge how important the administrative professionals are to your company. Whatever the case may be, we’ve compiled our top 5 favorite ways to celebrate this fun holiday.
Providing food is one of the easiest ways to show your coworkers you appreciate them. So on this special day, inviting all your administrative professionals to take an hour out of the day to go to lunch with the executives is a great way to help them feel like they mean a lot to the company. Pick a fun restaurant you know your employees/coworkers don’t get the opportunity to go to a lot and somewhere where the food choices are pretty varied so everyone can get something they enjoy. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but try to do something nicer than hitting the local McDonalds or Golden Corral (unless you know your teammates would love that).
Have some fun
If you can arrange schedules, it can be really fun to take your admins for a couple hours of fun. Go paintballing, bowling, pottery painting, etc. There are so many fun things you can do as adults to indulge your inner child for a while. Having fun with your admins can really help them know that you value them as individuals.
Give a little time off
If you can work out staggering some schedules that day, you could allow all of your administrative professionals to take half the day off, either morning or afternoon to ensure they get some time to sleep in or pamper themselves while the rest of the world is at work. They work hard for you and your bosses so this is a good way to show you acknowledge their value
Card circulation and a gift
If you prefer to keep things pretty low key, that’s okay! Circulating some cards around to the executives for your administrative professionals and providing each one with a treat like delicious chocolates or flowers can still go a very long way to helping them feel appreciated. Being an administrative professional can be quite a thankless job and getting a card that has well wishes from all of the executives in your company can be a wonderful way to show they aren’t forgotten.
CEO takes over for an hour
If your executives are in a position to do so, why not have a little fun and have them volunteer to take over the administrative professionals’ desks for a short period of time so they can slip off for a pedicure or even just a nice long coffee break in your cafeteria. It doesn’t have to be longer than an hour, but this can really be fun for the admins and surprisingly beneficial for the executives by getting an opportunity to “walk a mile” in their admin’s shoes.
