Why Career Step is Perfect for Military Spouses (a laptop is just one reason!)

MilitaryReferral BlogNo Comments

military coupleWe are very excited to announce that our MyCAA-approved programs now include a laptop for all military spouses who enroll with this funding! This is a big deal because, with the online format of our Career Step training programs, included laptops ensure that military spouses can study from anywhere they have an internet connection.

And while the included laptop is very exciting, this is just one of the reasons Career Step is a great choice for military spouses. If you have friends or family in the military, you should let them know about the advantages of going back to school with Career Step (and increase your referrals in the process.) Here are some quick facts about Career Step’s courses you can share with them:

MyCAA approved

Through the DOD’s MyCAA funding, eligible military spouses can go back to school for free—yes, FREE!! With MyCAA, military spouses can get up to $4,000 to be used towards their education. All of Career Step’s courses meet MyCAA guidelines and cost less than $4,000 so it is possible for your friends who qualify to get a quality education without paying a dime! For more information on MyCAA funding, you can check out our MyCAA Myths eBook.

All-inclusive

Career Step’s courses provide everything students need to succeed. With our online courses, military spouses get the flexibility and portability needed with the military lifestyle. However, we also provide them with the following:

  • Laptop – To enhance the learning experience, Career Step includes a laptop for all military spouses who are enrolled in programs that include ebooks. This means our students can take their course with them no matter where they travel. (Note: not all courses include ebooks but most do.)
  • Hands-on Experience – Our courses include useful, hands-on experience, which is why employers hire our graduates. (We currently have a graduate placement rate of 84%!)
  • One-on-One Student Support – Unlike some other online schools, our students have access to experienced instructors (who have actually worked in the industry students are training for). Instructors are there to can answer questions or just provide a little bit of motivation when students hit a rough patch.

Career focused

Career Step’s courses are designed to get our students in, out, and working as quickly as possible. This is great news for the military spouse who need to start working right away. Our courses also prepare students for careers with job opportunities nationwide—something important for a military spouse who moves around frequently. Many of the careers we train students for also have work-from-home opportunities such as medical transcription or medical coding and billing.

Hi, I have previously used MYCAA to pay for college courses. Although I know I didn’t use all of it (not sure if any of it was used, actually I was just enrolled). Is it possible to switch careers and go this route instead? Because of our new family situation I need opportunity to work from home, interested in medical coding.

    Hi Jena,
Thanks for your question.  You may use the funding that you have left over as long as you are not outside of 3 years from the first time you used the grant. Typically you would need to wait until your current program has expired if you are no looking to complete it. For example if your current program does not end until October 15th,  you would have to wait to reapply for the funding towards another program until at least October 1st.

Please contact Brittany Emerine as she can assist you with any further questions about how much funding you might have left or when you may start the application process. You can reach her at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

    Best wishes!

    Does coastguard benefit?

    Hi Rosa-
    Thank you for your question!

We wish Coast Guard spouses qualified too! :( Unfortunately, the Department of Defense sets the eligibility requirements and because the Coast Guard is under the Department of Homeland Security they have been excluded. Since we’re just a school approved for the funding, we have no say over the eligibility policies—so until the DOD changes its policy, the best we can do is offer generous military tuition discounts on our own (visit http://www.careerstep.com/military-tuition-discounts?uid=socfacebook for more details).Hopefully that helps and best wishes!

  29. Ashley September 10, 2016

My husband is medically retired, are army vets spouses included?

  30. Career Step September 12, 2016

    Hi Ashley,
Thanks for reaching out to us. Veterans actually aren’t eligible for MyCAA funding. :( Unfortunately the Department of Defense sets the eligibility requirements, and as just a school approved for the funding we have no influence over those decisions. Until the DOD changes its policy, the best we can do is offer generous military tuition discounts through one of our academic partners. With this partnership, you can save 90% off our normal tuition and train for as little as $180. Visit http://www.careerstep.com/military-discounts?uid=socfacebook for more details. Hopefully that helps and best wishes!
