Good question. Certification is not required to work as a veterinary assistant. However, employers often prefer to hire trained staff. (For veterinarians, it’s easier than providing the training themselves, plus trained assistants are ready to work immediately.) Unquestionably, professional training makes you more hirable and desirable to employers and sets you apart from other job seekers.
In order to be admitted, you must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or a General Education Development (GED) certificate. No specific skills or experience are considered prerequisites for entry into the CareerStep training program. Learners will also need to pass a criminal background check and provide proof of current immunizations before signing up.
